One system has combined 5 factories in a single production chain.
Blue Solutions has successfully deployed a Resource Planning System (ERP) for the global timber industry giant. Latvijas Finieris uses Microsoft Dynamics AX for centralised management of several factories in Latvia and Estonia. A four-year investment will strengthen the company's dominance in the global market.
“Focus to the 4th Industrial Revolution is not just a ”fashionable slogan“ for the Western European manufacturing companies. Latvijas Finieris ERP deployment project is the largest in the Baltic States and the only Microsoft Dynamics AX based projects for the implementation of centralised management of all production corporation processes in real time – from customer’s order placement to product delivery to the customer. By combining group companies in different countries into a unified system, we exceeded to synchronise production cycles between companies and create a basis for increasing the production volumes. For example, previously, the product description and configuration used to take several hours, and now it takes a few minutes and all production chains receive automated instructions to complete the order,“ says Algimantas Brazauskas, director of Blue Solutions.
“We have transferred the experience of our specialists to the system and significantly increased the efficiency of business management. We have achieved our goal: we manufacture what is ordered, we manage production in real time, we have full traceability of product status or order execution at all stages, in real time“, says the board member of Latvijas Finieris Pauls Abele, director of Business Support Department.
Although the system installation and data centre is situated in Riga, the system is safely accessible over the Internet to users from any country in the world. Over 1,000 employees in 24/7 mode are actively communicating with the system – organising the supply of raw materials and managing production and product unloading processes, while 12 representations in the world accept orders for export to 60 countries.
The introduction of the system of critical significance did not impede development
The extraordinary challenge of implementing such a project was not only the huge volume but also the length. By reorganizing the entire business chain from the customer order to the delivery of the product to the customer, some of the most important conditions was not to obstruct the customer to implement the intended changes and to make the critical part of the system available for use at a time appropriate for the business cycles.
“The business needs have changed over the last 4 years – we had to adapt quickly. Often, more than 20 employees worked on the project tasks, therefore, having a “long bench” with spare specialists of the team was one of the key success factors,“ says Evaldas Kulbokas, chairman of the board of Blue Solutions.
